Not a Jigsaw Puzzle
On this rainy grey day I return to one of my projects. Some people do jigsaw puzzles – not me. I am joining small woven squares. These are scraps from a knitting project two winters back I wove the scraps on a 4″ x4 ” pin loom, and am now joining them together. I had laid the squares out and determined the pattern, and then bundled rows Today I passed the halfway mark! Nice quiet …
Oh no! The pin loom project is starting to look a lot like Topsy
On this sunny day I returned to the pin loom project. Although I had already laid out the pieces to determine how I wanted them before joining them, I was interrupted by the coming of a guest who would sleep in that bed. So I pulled them. and in the meantime I found more short pieces of yarn and made more squares. I even made more of the neutral in between squares. But today I …
The Warm Up for Weaving
Long ago I bought some loopers for a potholder loom – probably before Ken died in 2017. After Ken died I just couldn’t weave; I would sit and stare into space, or cry or weave all uneven. After I knit a bunch of necks for friends, I bought a pin loom and started weaving small squares on a 3’x3″ loom. I have laid them out but haven’t decided on the pattern and how I want …
Progress on the Pin Loom Project
Remember the necks I knit last winter? Well, I knit quite a few. And I had some yarn left over. I bought a pin loom, a tiny wooden square with nails along each side. And I wove squares from the bits an pieces left from the necks Then I came up with a plan for a lap blanket. I used some other left overs – grey and brown for in between the colored squares It …
At the Loom – Finally!
Although I have sat at the loom a couple times recently, I wove very little. How could I fill or just live with the empty space of not having Ken making pots while I was weaving? After call from a five year old friend about her pot holder weaving, I decided to give it a go. Since Mardi Gras is about ten days away, I set my pandora for Mardi Gras music – something I …
Judith’s Weaving Class
While Ken was learning about bees Judith took a Sectional Warp class at the Weavers Guild. The loom on the main floor, has a sectional warp; it enables the weaver to easily wind on miles of the same warp and weave many rugs before she needs to re- warp her loom. The instructor was excellent, the students had diverse backgrounds. It was worth the time away from the farm to hone this skill.
A Return to Weaving
After a morning of picking and putting up some beans and broccoli, I took a break from those pressing summer tasks. I returned to weaving a rug I had started before spring was upon us. It felt good to be at the loom and hear the summer rain. While I was weaving I thought of Ken out in the field. When the summer shower started I am sure he and Oscar took refuge in the …
Rug Progress
I am excited about this rug! When I got the request for grey rugs I had wondered how I would make a good looking grey rug – not dingy or boring. I saw a photo of this pattern in other colors and it appealed to me as I love uneven somewhat random inlays of contrast color. Here is the 12 inch pattern I will repeat.
Rug Progress
I had a request that I make some grey rugs. I warped up my older loom with grey warp. After weaving some white t-shirt fabric to space out the warp, I started running the shuttle – first the warp grey for the end! For the body of the rug I stared with a medium grey and then added some putty colored accents. Here is the view as I …
