One Tough Good Bye

Today the mechanic came back with the second of three tractors.  Both Massey Fergusons now work.  I have yet to decide whether or not I will sell them.  But a tractor in running order sells more quickly than one that isn’t working.  And I need to have them working so I can decide if they will work for me.

But I know this FarmAll B crank start is not something I want to keep.  The mechanic pull started it to avoid having to try cranking it to start.  It was Ken’s first tractor, and until he asked too much of it and broke the axle, it was all he needed.  It is a single front wheel and can turn on a dime.  It was a joy to watch what Ken could do on that tractor.

Ken had built the box for tools, but at various time it also carried me, an aging dog, or buckets of produce until we needed a trailer.  I had fond memories of sitting in that box next to Ken.

And so I cried when it left.  I didn’t expect that.  The mechanic was a sensitive, compassionate guy and we got through it.  Thanks, Dean.
