Last Day for Pigs

Monday evening Ken fed the pigs for the last time.         Tuesday morning, Election Day, was the last day for the pigs.  Early that morning Chris came and slaughtered on farm.  We believe in on farm slaughter as the animals appear to have no stress, and all waste stays on the farm.  We choose that time of year as the meat is processed before deer hunting season. Harvest Newsletter

The Midpoints between solstice and Equinox

Each Halloween we recognize the times between solstice and equinox.  From a farming perspective, this is where the drama is – In February the days are lengthening dramatically and the earth is awakening.  In May the seeds and plants are becoming established – some blooming.  In August the plants are producing and the push of  harvest is starting.  In October the harvest is wrapping up and the earth is preparing to sleep.
