Getting a Handle on It

Dave at Halco Press and I were laughing as we remembered Ken stories last week.  One of my favorites involves Ken, Dave and Dave’s dad Jim.  Jim Slack was a warm –  hearted man with a crusty exterior.  He loved teasing Ken.  He would often ask Ken what he was up to and once Ken explained that afternoon he planned to put handles on cups.  Ken further explained that one had to wait for the cups to go from soft to leather hard, but the handles had to go on before the cups got too dry or the handles wouldn’t stick to the cups.

This somewhat long winded response from Ken led to an ongoing tease from Jim to often repeat, “Get a handle on it, Keppers!”  So Ken to push the joke a bit farther conspired with Dave.  Ken made a very large cup handle and drilled holes in it and fired it.  while Jim was out, Ken and Dave installed the handle so if Ken were away, Jim could get a handle on it.
