No Ring for Judith

Once our relationship became serious – Ken planted more carrots which need thinning,

and I moved my perennial flowers to Turtle Lake – we had a conversation about wedding rings.  I saw no need for a ring.  Ken would have to take it off to make pots, and wear off his skin when gardening.  I, with my short stubby fingers never saw a ring that looked good on my hands or did not get in the way of whatever I was doing.

I also pointed out I was old enough to fend off unwanted advances that could occur if I lacked a wedding band.

I suggested we go to Japan with the money we would spend on rings.  Ken liked the idea, and liked it even more when we were offered free flight and job to host Rice Lake’s sister city, Miharu’s American style bed and breakfast.  What a wonderful year it was!
