North coop

Ken completed his smaller portable coop for the tweens!  Last night we moved chickens: cockerels to the north coop.  Ken found that a group of males without a female in their midst form a gang with a pecking order, but they don’t fight.  Then the pullets went to the new portable coop

coop-037Here is his new coop with many great features:

coop-005There is the bird door with ramp on right and people door on the left side

coop-nest-boxes-roosts-035Nest boxes if needed, roosts, and a top floor feeding station for early morning or inclement weather

coop-004Rain gutters to fill barrel for water

coop-front-wheel-036The last thing Ken figured out was this front set of wheels from and old piece of horse equipment.  It makes the coop more stationary and less like a rickshaw, it provides a place for hitch to tractor if needed, and it eases turning.
