fall-mobile-high-tunnel-before-move-010Greetings from the Garden!  This week’s CSA box has tomatoes, potatoes, greens and lettuce, peppers, onions or leeks, beans, salad turnips, cabbage and herbs.

garden-greens-trials-046Field Notes.  Brr, it feels like fall is here; the wind has a bite to it.  Ken has such a long to do list he isn’t sure where to begin!  He is planting for fall, picking heat loving crops, digging roots, and soon he will be getting crops dug for me to put in the root cellar and putting hoopettes up over crops and moving the mobile high tunnel over crops.  He  will pick the winter squash once we have a frost.  And he will be planting garlic soon.

garden-greens-mustard-osaka-022The fall greens are beautiful and we have many varieties we are testing for a University of Wisconsin trial program.  It is a great opportunity for us to try new things and for U.W. to get feedback from growers and sellers and chefs.   Our feed back goes to seed companies so they know which qualities to focus when breeding seed in the future!

Baked apples – going, going…

From the Kitchen.  It is oven time again.  I roasted meat, roasted vegetables and baked potatoes.  Ken baked some apples this morning.  Ken also has been making batches of soup – mostly cream soups from leeks, potatoes, carrots, peppers – what ever he has that seems good in combination.
